We could interpret a ‘fair society’ as one in which people are treated equally without favouritism or discrimination, but I prefer to interpret the word ‘fair’ as meaning ‘right-minded.’ For this reason I believe that a fair society is one which recognises and has empathy for the limitations of the vulnerable and takes steps to ensure they and those left on the margins are whole-heartedly welcomed in from there and offered the ongoing emotional, medical, financial and/ or whatever other practical support they need to independently take their place in the world.
